PS Update & How you can help right now!
- Event Giveaway dates at schools are set for the end of May- see below.
- Need Fundraising event in March, fun event.. looking to have New Belgium sponsor the brews to help us raise funds.
- Start planning the Annual Fundraiser >> tentative date so far: Sat. April 18th. We need ideas for what would be a great Annual Funder for years to come... 1st we need the details (where, what, when), then I can present them to New Belgium.. we're thinking of creating a mini tour de fat with a reception at a venue that has food and can host live music.
- Once they have the $$ collected, we'll need to have a building event to build the bikes, another event within the 1st 2 weeks of May
- Client would like an event strategy for years to come- any volunteers to taking this on?
- Need PR person to help bring the press to the event giveaways & get press releases together- anyone interested? We want to get local VIPS like the mayor, and a few others to attend as well.
- Next PS meeting will be at the Ad2 bowling event, Friday 2/27- we should have try to have some details for the March fundraiser & Annual events by next Friday 2/27.
Bike Giveaway Dates :: 4 Schools this year
Friday, May 22 - Columbian, Denver (afternoon, time tbd)
Wednesday, May 27 - Ellis, Denver (morning, time tbd)
Friday, May 29 - Alsup, Commerce City (morning, time tbd)
Wednesday, June 3 - Rose Hill, Commerce City (morning, time tbd)
Estimated # of kids/bikes- 350 to 400, so that's $20,000 ($50 per bike & helmet)- I'm confirming this total, but uh- that's alot of money & we have 91 days until the 1st school giveaway.. we got work to do! Who's with me?! :)
What we need to make this happen are dedicated young pros who can commit to certain parts (big or small). We need to really together and recruit some young folks who are looking to also make a difference. Right now, our economy is shitty and I'm sure with all the lay offs, and no one hiring that there's young pros looking to really make something of themselves. WELL PEOPLE, NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT. I need your help. Our non-profit, Wish for Wheels, needs your help.. so we can create the best damn, eye-catching campaign that will lead to more awareness > more funds > to give more bikes to more deserving Kindergartens who would never see a new bike & helmet in their near future, esp. with this crappy economy. We can rally and do what we can w/ what we've got, which is our advertising creative smarts, expertise, and connections!!
Below are the immediate areas where YOU can help. Contact Melanie at publicservice@ad2denver.com or call my cell 954.288.5185 if you are interested..
- March, Event Committee: Help plan & coordinate March Fundraiser (scope of event-small). We'll need to heavily promote the April Annual event
- April, Annual Event Committee: Help plan & coordinate Annual Fundraiser, tentatively Sat. April 18th (scope of event-big)
- PR/Media: Need PR person to draw press/media to event giveaways listed above. Need someone to please write press releases. Someone needed to be the voice & face of the PS Committee.
- Sponsorships: Need someone to reach out to businesses and organizations to partner for donations of all sorts. We will need a printer donor. Let us know if you got connections!
- Creatives: Help design collateral pieces for the events
- Non-profit Development Coordinator: someone to coordinate the volunteering for Ad2 Denver, some with expertise with fundraising and event planning. Will need to help coordinate the Bike Building Day in early-mid May.
Random thought... I wonder why college students aren't more involved with Ad2 Denver.. I feel like that this is opportunity to add REAL relevant experience to your portfolio, plus if you kick ass at this- you know that you will have mid-level advertising young pros that can vouch for you when the job opportunity presents itself plus your staying involved with peers in the industry... CALLING ALL STUDENTS & YOUNG PROS THAT WANT TO ADD TO THEIR PORTFOLIO and SKILL SET- We need your help!!
Ok, that was a long update. I'm also looking to have meetings at least once a week to keep things moving on out. Please comment back on the blog and let me know if Wednesdays after work are good. We should rotate the meeting locations to be at Vine Street or at Nine 75.
As always, you can reach me by phone, its my preferred way of contact- 954.288.5185 or email me at publicservice@ad2denver.com
THE NEXT MEETING IS: MONDAY, MARCH 2ND >> place TBD, it may even be a conference call. There's alot of things going on now thru May, so we'll need to at least meet or have a conference call once a week to keep things moving.

Notes from the Jan 22nd Creative Meeting
Discussion and Action Items (in no particular order, names that are assigned tasks are bolded):
Work with bike apparel maker Twin Six to create shirts, socks, etc at discounted cost for sale via their site to benefit WfW. Patrick to share his contact info with Melanie for coordination when we're ready to make apparel.
Have WfW ask it's current bike related partners / sponsors for access to their email newsletter lists or have an email sent on behalf of WfW or even mention on blogs / sites to drive donations to WfW site. Melanie to follow up with WfW on getting partner contacts and then get a member of the committee to do some outreach.
Creating the email donor campaign. The plan is to roll out this years WfW donor letter via email initially. The email is slated to go out roughly two weeks from now (2nd week in Feb at the latest), pending approval and getting the mass email system set up, etc. Ted will explore what email system will work best (swiftpage, mailchimp, and working with Merkle have been suggested.) KC will work on design while Patrick works on copy.
New look and feel for WfW. Courtney will develop several concepts for re-design logos, etc for WfW. Patrick and Justin will work on taglines. Concepts are to be presented internally before the next Ad2 BOD meeting on Feb 3rd (exact time TBA.) Then to WfW later that week or the 2nd week in Feb for approval. The goal is to send another email announcing new look / feel as well as asking for donations in mid Feb (2/16) as well as send a postcard mailer to donors that WfW doesn't have an email for around the same time, with the goal to drive donations to the web site whenever possible.
For Future Consideration:
What events do we want to target?
Could we have some kids who've gotten bikes from WfW at an event to highlight the work they do and add emotional appeal?
Can we ask some local bike retailers to do a "round up your purchase" type of donation program for WfW?
What collateral does WfW need for events?
When will the "big event" be, and how can we make it kick ass?
Did I miss anything? Weren't there but have another idea? If so, let's hear it in the comments.
Thanks.

To see what WfW's has done in the past visit the Ad2 PS dropbox at: drop.io/ad2denvercreative (pass: ad2denver) and look at the WfW letter pdf (sorry for the funky characters, the scanner tried to interpret their watermark as text or something, but you get the main idea). To get even more backstory check out the "WfW Preplaning meeting - Justin's Notes" to see their answers and my thoughts on our early interviews with them.
